Is your car ready for the freeze? Here's what you can do right now
Jan 20, 2025
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — WGNO has what you need to know to get your car prepared for the winter weather including ice and snow.
Meteorologists are predicting that the Northshore and Southshore will soon see temperatures as low as mid to upper 20s bringing with it rain, sleet, and about three to five inches of snow.
WGNO prepares for major winter weather impact
Here are some things you can do now to prep and protect your vehicle before the weather moves in.
Step 1
To prevent your windshield wipers from sticking to the glass, just pull them up and then put a sock on it.
Step 2
If your door is frozen and stuck, spray glass cleaner along the door frame and don't forget the handle. Wait one minute and it should open.
Step 3
To prevent your windshield from freezing over, put one part vinegar and one part water into a spray bottle. Before the freezing temperatures hit, spray your windshield evenly and just let it sit.
Reminder:
Never pour hot water on your windshield, it will crack!
Step 4
To prevent your side mirrors from icing up, take a plastic bag wrap it around and secure it with a rubber band.
If your windshield does freeze, you can always just turn on your car, put on the defrost and wait.
Drivers are encouraged to stay home and wait out the storm but if you do have to be on the road during the storm, just be careful and drive safely.
