LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- Deputies have arrested a woman in northwest Indiana accused of stealing a car before crashing into a tree -- all while she was allegedly nude.
Deputies with the La Porte County Sheriff's Office were called Sunday shortly after 6 p.m. to the 200 block of Greenlawn Drive in response to reports of a single-vehicle crash. LCSO said deputies arrived and found a silver 2007 BMW that had crashed into a tree.
A nearby homeowner, who was the original caller to dispatch, then informed the deputies on the scene that the woman, who was identified as Michelle Reeves, was now inside their residence and allegedly taking a shower. The caller also reported that Reeves was initially nude before she entered their residence.
Deputies also discovered that Reeves had slammed the stolen vehicle into a basketball hoop before coming into contact with the tree.
One of the deputies entered the home and instructed Reeves to exit the bathroom after learning the door was locked. LCSO said Reeves exited the bathroom wrapped in a towel. She was subsequently arrested and transported to the La Porte County Jail where she was preliminarily charged with:
Theft (level 6 felony)
Unauthorized entry of a vehicle used in a crime (level 6 felony)
Criminal mischief (Class A misdemeanor)
Public nudity (Class C misdemeanor)
LCSO said preliminary information indicated Reeves had allegedly stolen the vehicle while it was idling in the driveway of a nearby residence.
Reeves is currently being housed at the La Porte County Jail where she is being held on a $755 cash-only bond.
