INDIANAPOLIS -- The weather outside might be frightful, but restaurants across the Indianapolis metro hope you brave the conditions to make it out for devour Indy. The annual citywide dining experience offers more than 150 restaurants with special deals and specialty-crafted menus. Livery Downtown has been on the Devour menu for years. General Manager Ally Selkirk always looks forward to the two-week event and what it means for their restaurant. ”We see the same amount of sales that we would, if not more, on a normal week," Selkirk said. "With twice the amount of people." Devour Indy comes at an important time for local restaurants. The period after New Years is typically marked with fitness or financial savings goals and even the weather working to keep people at home and away from local restaurants. ”We kind of joke when it becomes winter people get scared of the dark too, so they come out earlier, they don't necessarily want to stay out as late," Selkirk said. Having deals across the city helps encourage customers to come out for a discounted try at a restaurant they might not have been to before. ”That's what devour is all about. Getting people out there to try new restaurants try new menus," said Christina Griffiths with the AAA Hoosier Motor Club, the title sponsor of Devour Indy. Devour Indy restaurants have constructed three-course menus specially made for the occasion. Livery has some new menu items and some classics. ”Everybody comes to Livery for the empanadas," Selkirk said. "So, we did queso and we switched it up a little bit and did steak this year." The price at Livery for an appetizer, entrée and desert comes out to just $25 a person. That's a deal you won't get anywhere else. ”We still want it to be about people who don't necessarily get to go out or who are new to our restaurants," Selkirk said.
