Gulf Winter Storm 1/20
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — It’s not too often that winter storm warnings blanket the Gulf Coast, but that is the case ahead of a rare winter storm Tuesday.
New Orleans and Mobile, Alabama, have not seen an inch of snow since Dec. 31, 1963. Both cities are in line to receive multiple inches of snow from the winter storm.
Timing
In the early morning hours of Tuesday, wintry precipitation will first begin in Texas before drifting off to the east. Louisiana, southern Mississippi, southern Alabama, and northwest Florida will have snow sliding through these spots on Tuesday/Tuesday nights. Ice accretion may also be a concern for parts of Florida including Tallahassee.
Tuesday night into early Wednesday, the system will bring glancing snow showers to the Carolina coast before exiting into the Atlantic Ocean.
Snow amounts
Stretching from eastern Texas to southern Georgia and northwest Florida, accumulating snow is likely. This Gulf storm aims to bring from 4 to 6 inches of snow to Lake Charles, Louisiana, and New Orleans, with high amounts possible in south-central parts of the state.
