Speed may have been a factor in deadly northwest Charlotte crash

CHARLOTTE, NC – A woman died after crashing a car into a tree in northwest Charlotte Sunday night.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say speed and ‘impairment’ may have been factors in the wreck and that toxicology results are pending.
The crash happened around 8:30pm Sunday on Bellhaven Boulevard, not far from Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road.
Investigators believe the driver, 25-year-old Kimberly Tavarez, was speeding when the car went off the road and hit a tree.
She not wearing a seatbelt and died from her injuries.
A passenger, 32-year-old Zachary McCullough, was wearing a seatbelt and was treated for minor injuries.
