CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) -- Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States on Monday, drawing mixed reactions from South Carolina leaders.
Here's what they're saying:
Governor Henry McMaster (R)
"President Trump's inauguration is a powerful reminder that America's best days are ahead of us. We stand ready to work alongside President Trump to make America stronger, safer, and more prosperous than ever before. Let's get to work!"
Attorney General Alan Wilson (R)
Congratulations, Mr. President, on your inauguration as America's 47th President! I look forward to working with you to make America great again! @realDonaldTrump"
Senator Tim Scott (R)
“Today, I join millions of Americans and friends around the world in celebration of President Trump’s inauguration! Under his second term, Americans will have renewed pride in our nation and have high enthusiasm for lower taxes, safer communities, and greater opportunity. I look forward to working alongside the President over the next four years to help him deliver these wins for the American people.
Congratulations, Mr. President! Let’s get to work and once again make America the shining city on the hill!"
Senator Lindsey Graham (R)
“President Trump’s inaugural speech was a strong, bullish challenge for America to aggressively confront and solve our problems, and passionately pursue a new golden age for our country. As President Trump said, ‘the impossible is what we do best.’
I’m excited. Let’s get to work.
Well done, Mr. President.”
U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace (R), who represents South Carolina's 1st Congressional District
"President Donald J. Trump is once again the President of the United States. A new era of hope and faith begins!"
U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson (R), who represents South Carolina's 2nd Congressional District
"As someone who attended many inauguration addresses, there is no doubt in my mind that that was the best inauguration speech I have ever seen an American President deliver in history. It is a new morning in America. Trump will fix it!"
U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman (R), who represents South Carolina's 5th Congressional District
"I am standing by and standing ready to work with the Trump administration to deliver a strong, conservative agenda for the American people so we can get this country back on track.
That includes saving us from the fiscal cliff we currently stand at, securing our borders, and bringing independence to the U.S. once again!!
It’s a new age of: PROMISES MADE PROMISES KEPT!!"
U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn (D), who represents South Carolina's 6th Congressional District
"Today, Donald Trump will be inaugurated the 47th President of the United States.
It also happens to be Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
As I attend the inaugural ceremonies today, I'll be reminded of the speech King delivered from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial 61 years ago, where he urged his listeners not to "wallow in the valley of despair." We will continue our struggle, and we must continue our fight."
