Woman, 66, dies in hitandrun crash in Encinitas

ENCINITAS, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A woman died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the road in Encinitas Sunday evening, according to authorities. Deputies are still looking for the suspected hit-and-run driver.
Just before 7 p.m. Sunday, deputies with the North Coastal Sheriff's Station responded to the scene of a crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian. The incident happened in the 900 block of North Coast Highway 101.

Deputies said a possibly light-colored sport utility vehicle struck a 66-year-old woman who was in the roadway, and then immediately drove away.
The woman was taken by ambulance to the hospital where she ultimately died from her injuries, according to authorities.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation. It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor.
