CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - A hawk was rescued by an officer of the Chicopee Police Department on Friday. Small fire put out at Fruit Fair Supermarket in Chicopee The Chicopee Police Department states that officers received a call from a concerned citizen about a hawk that appeared to be injured. Officers were able to locate the hawk and brought it to the Massachusetts Environmental Police (MEP). The hawk was then taken to a wildlife rescue to be treated for a foot and wing injury. According to Mass Audubon, the most common hawk in Massachusetts is the red-tailed hawk, which can be seen in cities, suburbs, and the countryside. It feeds mainly on squirrels and other small mammals and rarely presents any threat to humans or pets.
