FRANCONIA, N.H. (WPRI) — Two hikers were rescued on Saturday from the Greenleaf Trail in Franconia, New Hampshire. One of the hikers is from Cranston, while the other is from Naugatuck, Connecticut. The pair had originally planned to hike the popular Franconia Ridge trail. New Hampshire's Fish and Game Department (NHF&G) said the two men started their trek at 7 a.m. but deviated from the trail. The pair later called for help as they believed they were hypothermic, and the weather conditions made it hard for them to see. The group made it back to the trail's parking lot at 5:10 p.m. The hikers declined further medical treatment. NHF&G said the men were not adequately prepared for the forecasted conditions of rain, sleet and snow. The agency advised all hikers to be prepared for any kind of weather and to wear proper footwear. Neither of the men had a New Hampshire Hike Safe cards, which would cover the cost of their rescue.
