SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – This is it, the core of the cold is here. Temperatures today will remain below zero for many.  Throw in the wind and wind chills will be in the minus teens, minus 20s, and minus 30s throughout the day.  Limit your time outdoors if you can. Temperatures will slowly ‘warm’ for tomorrow with highs returning above zero.  Morning wind chills will continue to be in the minus teens, minus 20s, and minus 30s. More seasonal air will return by midweek.  That’s also when we’ll have stronger wind.  Wind gusts of 35 to over 40 mph will be likely in western South Dakota.  At the same time, light snow will return to the Black Hills and plains of western South Dakota.  Some of the light snow will move into eastern KELOLAND later in the week, but moisture will remain limited. The seven-day forecast shows the above average temperatures returning later this week.  Looking beyond the 7-day forecast, temperatures will continue to swing back and forth, but I’m not seeing any cold outbreaks like what we’re currently going through.
