Jan 20, 2025
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A cold weather advisory is in effect across Kentucky, with local and state officials urging residents to take precautions as temperatures drop. The advisory is set to remain in place until 1 p.m. Monday.
Emergency management officials emphasize the importance of protecting yourself, loved ones, and your home during extreme cold. To prevent frozen pipes, experts recommend dripping water from faucets and allowing warm air to flow to pipes by opening cabinet doors.
The Lexington Fire Department is also reminding residents to use caution with home heating equipment to prevent fires and carbon monoxide poisoning.
Additionally, the Lexington Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention has activated its emergency weather plan through January 24. The plan includes expanded shelter services and transportation to those shelters.
Individuals in need of shelter or assistance can contact the Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention by calling Lex-Call at 311.
