BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — Yeah, it's still cold. Bitter cold. Below zero without the wind chill cold. But, to quote a once-popular song and phrase, "The sun will come out tomorrow." Tuesday will be in the 20s. And all will be weather-well once more. "It is quite crazy how cold it is right now all across the country including right here in North Dakota," KX Meteorologist Andre Brooks says. "It's a cold start to our day, to say the least." Bismarck, ND, January 20, 2025, around 8:45 a.m. (KX weather cam) With temperatures throughout the region early Monday morning clustered around the -20 degree mark and, with wind chill added, around -50, we're as cold as International Falls, Minnesota, typically one of the cold spots in the U.S. during winter. And we're up there with Eureka, Canada, which is around -38 degrees Monday morning, and which is closer to the north pole than North Dakota. Siberia is looking pretty inviting, weather wise today, with temperatures in the upper teens at this hour and forecast throughout the rest of Monday. An extreme cold weather alert remains in effect for the KX viewing area through noon Tuesday, meaning the cold temperatures will hang around through then. The National Weather Service notes, in this type of freezing weather, frostbite can occur in as little as five minutes on exposed skin. But starting Tuesday afternoon, things begin to warm up, relatively speaking. "We will see those temperatures increase back up into the 20s and 30s, which is around where we should be this time of year," says Brooks. However, a chance of snow comes with the warmer temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Today's Top Stories SIGN UP NOW
