Closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Jan 20, 2025
Baltimore Fishbowl will be closed Monday, Jan. 20, as we join the nation in honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.We will resume publishing new stories on Tuesday, Jan. 21.In this time, we leave you with King’s own words from his 1967 speech at the American Psychological Association’s annual convention in Washington, D.C, where he emphasized the importance of “creative maladjustment” to inequities and injustices. We must never adjust ourselves to racial discrimination and racial segregation. We must never adjust ourselves to religious bigotry. We must never adjust ourselves to economic conditions that take necessities from the many to give luxuries to the few. We must never adjust ourselves to the madness of militarism, and the self-defeating effects of physical violence…. And through such creative maladjustment, we may be able to emerge from the bleak and desolate midnight of man’s inhumanity to man, into the bright and glittering daybreak of freedom and justice.Martin Luther King Jr., 1967, speech at American Pscyhological Association’s Convention in Washington, D.C.
