COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- Ohio State junior Katie Jude managed to snag one of the 500 student tickets allotted for college football's national championship game. But Jude won't be in attendance Monday night, deciding not to go after nearly all of the friends she'd planned to go with did not manage to get tickets. Each participating school had 500 tickets set at a lower price point for students, but they went quickly with a student body of nearly 67,000. Ohio State-Notre Dame facts to know for national championship game Jude said between her roommates and her larger friend group, only Jude and one other friend got the tickets they requested. Other Ohio State students took to social media to question why there were so few tickets. Associate Athletic Director for Communications Jerry Emig said the playoff designated 500 tickets of the team's allotted tickets for students, to be sold at a reduced rate. Emig said it also designated 500 tickets for the band. The playoff system said online that most of the tickets are allocated to the two universities competing in the game, for those schools to distribute. Ohio State walk-on, social media star off roster for weeks “The schools determine how their 20,000 tickets are distributed," a playoff spokesperson told NBC4. "The CFP does set 500 of those at a lower price point for students, but we do not control who the school offers the remaining 19,500 tickets to for purchase.” Notre Dame was also given 500 tickets for their nearly 9,000 students. Although students are able to purchase general admission tickets, the cheapest available are well over $1,000, often $2,000. A semester's housing at Ohio State costs around $4,000, so students would have to pay around half of their housing costs for the most inexpensive tickets. Resale tickets on Ticketmaster start around $2,000 and can go above $9,000. On StubHub, the least expensive tickets are $1,855 and they go up to nearly $19,000. SeatGeek starts similarly around $1,850.
