ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Buying a house can seem intimidating amid fluctuations in the market, and the overall process may appear complex to know where to start. Two members of the Nathan Wenzel Team at Howard Hanna Realty stopped by the News 8 at Sunrise studio to share news of their upcoming class trying to take the pressure out of home buying know-how. Nate Wenzel and Hannah Mazzaferro will host a free How to Buy a House class on January 25 at 10 am at Neutral Ground Coffeehouse in Pittsford. The How to Buy a House curriculum comes from a nationally certified program geared towards first-time homebuyers. Wenzel says his team decided to offer the class in Rochester so more people can be aware of their options. "We want to try to make it really fun. Obviously, it's supposed to be a fun process—purchasing a home. We really want to make sure we're giving as much information out there as possible to the community," he explains to News 8's Mikhaela Singleton. "There is obviously a lot going on right now. There's been a lot of activity in the marketplace. [We're] just trying to help our buyers navigate that." There will also be a lender, Mike Monile of Fairway Mortgage, at the class to talk the attendees through New York's first-time home buyer incentives. The State of New York Mortgage Agency (SONYMA) offers low-interest loans, grants, and expense assistance that can often go overlooked if buyers aren't aware. Mazzaferro says she expects the class to be a useful tool for many after their first class in November revealed just how many people feel they could use a helping hand navigating all things real estate. "There's a huge demand for this type of education because they don't teach you how to buy a house in school, so the realtors need to do it," she says.
