CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) — Raising nearly $5,000, a community in Clovis is using artwork to show their support to the heroes battling flames and the victims who lost everything.
The devastation from the fires in Southern California has left thousands of people without a place to call home.
"It gives our community an opportunity to help and make a difference," Scott Glenn, Papa's Place Owner said.
Papa's Place in Old Town Clovis partnered with local artists for a painting and raffle event for firefighters putting their lives on the line and the people who are left with nothing.
"We can't replace everything for them. But it's so much more than that. It is people coming together on all levels. Putting everything else, opinions and disagreements aside and coming together to make a difference even in the smallest way," Glenn said.
Eryn Lovik is a local artist who was born and raised in Los Angeles.
"It's just emotional because you never know when you're it's your turn to be in that spot and you just hope that somebody is going to be there for you," Lovik said.
Monetary donations will go towards the Cal Fire Foundation and raffle ticket sales go to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Lovik is also collecting letters from kids for firefighters.
"I always want to tell my daughter she's seven; there's a way to contribute in your own unique way. So, if it's a letter by a kid, I mean, that's just as impactful as the monetary donations," Lovik said.
Lovik and her daughter, Emmy, helped raise $4,000 for the Community Regional Center through her art for victims of the Creek Fire back in 2020, proving a little goes a long way.
"I'm selling all these bracelets and I make them handmade," Emmy said.
"This is our community coming together and saying, we're here for you and like sending help," Lovik said.
Because of the outpouring of support received from the community, the fundraiser has been extended to next weekend.
