ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A tradition that goes back decades. One local family has made the fantasy football draft a tradition that's been running since 1989. News 8 first brought you this story back in August at the start of the NFL season. Now, they're celebrating another successful season with friends, family, and a whole lot of football lovers. This was the gathering Sunday night at Merchant's Grill. Joe Blakely, who runs the whole thing, told News 8 it wasn't a great season for his team, and he'd like to get back in the winner's bracket. He said though, he's just glad this tradition has persisted all these years. Joe Blakely holds up the family fantasy football trophy that lists each year's winner. The football on top is an old ball he and his son used to play with. "This group, we just poke fun at each other," said Blakely. "You know, it's all about bragging rights and kidding, and a little bit of banter back and forth." And while the league has gone digital, the family still put their selections on a board hung on the back of Joe's backyard. That's where you can expect to find the group later this year when it's time to draft again.
