WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – ICT Waymaker Inc. is working to find solutions to a potentially life-threatening issue. Offering support is part of the mission behind ICT Waymaker Inc. "It's very important. We need to be able to get to these places to start over," said the President of Waymaker Inc. Bonnie Funk. Bonnie Funk is one of many actively seeking solutions. "We've been able to provide bus passes at half cost to sober living and Oxford House." Funk saw a need for people working through addiction and struggling with finances. "There are a lot of barriers when you're first getting sober, and that's really difficult," said Funk. One who knows that firsthand is Cody Couch, a member of the recovery community and ICT Waymaker Inc. "I feel like we're not only saving lives, we also are stopping crime rates. You know, we're saving people, being on the streets, being homeless, stealing and do what they got to do to get their next fix, said Couch. "The next fix now is recovery." ICT Waymaker Inc. is making way for Nicholas Hughey, who is also recovering. "They paid for the first month's week and the first week's deposit," said Nicholas Hughey, who's in recovery. "I was able to get into sober living." The non-profit stresses that when it helps people, it's not a hand-out but a hand-up. "I'm coming up on two years in March, and you know I've never made it that far, and I never was viewed as someone who would be able to make it that far," said Chelsea Rogers, who's recovering. It all comes back to support. "Somebody once helped me get into sober living and to be able to be that person (voice breaks) to help other people is amazing," said Funk. Like-minded people, remembering the first steps in their recovery journey and helping a familiar start theirs. So far, the nonprofit has helped over 75 people. Couch says that equates to about $8,000. The non-profit relies solely on donations. While aimed at helping so many, they need the community's help.
