RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Whether you're interested in gardening, cleaning or crafts, there are around 15 different community volunteering events happening in the Richmond area on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. While it is well known as a federal holiday, MLK Day (Jan. 20) is also a day dedicated to service. The organization Community Foundation has put together a collection of events that Richmond residents can attend depending on their interest or location to help the surrounding community. VCU to host celebration week honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. For example, let's say someone has a particular interest in helping the environment, they can help Richmond Grows Gardens prep their greenhouse for the growing season on Monday, Jan. 20 from 9:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. If carpentry or crafts is more your speed, check out the bench building event happening at Canoe Run Park on Jan. 20 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. For a full list of volunteer events you can attend, click here.
