CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Chesterfield Fire and EMS gave a special shout out to a 9-year-old girl on Sunday after she saved her family from a house fire the previous weekend. 9-year-old Mackenzie was made an honorary firefighter on Sunday, Jan. 19 according to a post from Chesterfield Fire and EMS, noting that she is the reason her family made it out of a house fire that happened a week earlier on Sunday, Jan. 12. She then woke up her family members, giving them enough time to get out of the house before the fire took over. While Mackenzie and her family thought they were stopping by Fire Station 7 to have dinner with the firefighters, they had several surprises in store. They were able to replace the toys Mackenzie and her siblings lost in the fire as well as giving her a patch to honor her bravery. To view the full post, click here.
