NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) -- Following more than 35 years of service, the USS Philippine Sea (CG 58) is preparing to depart Naval Station Norfolk for the ship's final scheduled deployment. The Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser will leave Monday, Jan. 20, and operate in the U.S. Southern Command Area of Responsibility. The Navy said the Philippine Sea will support multinational maritime operations, improve and enhance interoperability with partners in the region, conduct Theater Security Cooperation (TSC) port visits, and support the Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATF-South) in countering illicit-drug trafficking.
