EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – QSP Knife is fast becoming one of my favorite knife brands. I like to joke that my Holy Trinity of knives consists of Buck, Victorinox (Swiss Army) and Cold Steel. But QSP is moving up fast and threatening to crash the party. What is EDC? Here is a look at some daily carry items Not sure who they would bump out. Maybe, I should start calling it my Mount Rushmore so I can include all four in the group. My first entry into QSP’s offerings was the Canary with black G10 handles, blacked-out blade and what the company calls a glyde lock (basically a crossbar lock). QSP Canary with black G10 handles, blacked-out blade and glyde lock. Photo by Dave Burge/KTSM I have been carrying this one around off and on since I got it around Christmastime.  It’s a great little folder – lightweight, super sharp and stylish. Now on to entry No. 2 – the QSP Hedgehog with a spearpoint blade. Mine is actually a prototype that JB over at Big Red EDC picked up at Blade Show. Anyway, JB sent me a box of knives around New Year’s to check out and write about. The QSP Hedgehog spearpoint version is, by far, the headliner out of the bunch he sent me. This knife is roughly the same size as QSP’s original version that has a utility-type, razor-style blade. Both versions come in around 3 ¾ closed and the blade is just a bit under 3 inches (so it’s legal in places like California). Rough Edge EDC: Exploring Tenable Knives, a budget alternative for modern folders My Hedgehog comes with beautiful green micarta handles. It is a slipjoint (no lock), but it comes with a sturdy half-stop. When you are using it, you really have to push down on the blade to get it to even budge a bit when open.  I feel very confident that it won’t fold down on my hand while using it (a frequent fear of people who aren’t slipjoint fans). Anyway, the knife just screams “quality.” The one thing – and I won’t call it a criticism – it doesn’t come with a pocket clip. To rectify that situation, I ordered a leather slip from C. Risner Cutlery – the small Raven’s Fire (black leather with red stitching) – to carry this one around. It arrived just as I was finishing up this column. Beautiful stitching and construction. Will be a great way to carry around this knife. Rough Edge EDC: Custom fixed blades from Red Beard combine art, function Before getting the slip, I would carry the Hedgehog in a dedicated pocket in my cargo pants and make sure there was nothing else there that could scratch up or damage this knife. Risner Cutlery tell me they will have exclusive versions of the QSP Hedgehog with spearpoint blade back in stock by late February or early March. QSP Knife also told me they will have their own version on their website in the same time frame. QSP also has its original version with the razor-style blade available on its website as of this writing. Here are some handy links for C. Risner Cutlery (they have the easy to remember website of TraditionalPocketKnives.com) and QSP. Here is a link to the YouTube channel for C. Risner Cutlery. They always have great exclusive drops of new products. Their YT channel is a great way to keep on top of what C. Risner, or TPK, is up to. Just a note – C. Risner is a veteran-owned business for people who make it a point to support our military. Here is a link to Big Red EDC’s YouTube channel.
