DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado Governor Jared Polis will attend President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration on Monday.
The governor, a Democrat, is representing the National Governors Association as chair of the organization and said in an emailed statement he will work to make the voice of states and governors heard in Washington.
Gov. Polis welcomes federal agents’ help deporting undocumented criminals
Polis has recently made several moves and statements about the incoming Trump presidency, including welcoming federal agents to deport undocumented criminals and ordering flags to be raised to full staff for the inauguration before lowering them again to continue the 30 days of mourning for President Jimmy Carter's death. In his 2025 State of the State address, he also criticized Trump's proposed tariffs, saying they would raise the cost of groceries, housing and energy.
“As Chair of the National Governors Association, I’m leading a national bipartisan group of America’s governors to attend the Presidential inauguration," Polis said in a weekend release. "The relationship between states and the federal government is critical to getting things done and delivering for Americans, and I look forward to making sure that the voice of the Governors and the states is heard in Washington D.C."
Gov. Jared Polis ‘excited’ by RFK Jr.’s Trump Cabinet nod for U.S. health, human services
Gov. Jared Polis took to social platform X in November to express his excitement that President-elect Donald Trump had tapped Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as his choice for Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
The governor’s statements were met with backlash from other Democratic party members, who noted his previous posts that seemed to disagree with the previous presidential candidate’s stances, including his opinions on vaccines, among their many criticisms of RFK Jr.
Polis' office, in a statement about his inauguration attendance, said he "remains focused on delivering for Coloradans on the issues they care about most, including saving people money, housing, healthcare, public safety, education, and protecting our air and land for future generations."
