OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- After captivating visitors during his live painting residency two years ago, artist Robert Xavier Burden is returning to the Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA) for a special pop-up exhibition featuring his monumental works. His first live residency at OMA took place from February to June in 2023, when he spent four days a week painting on-site, allowing museum visitors a front-row seat to witness the evolution of The Alien Painting. This massive, 12-feet by 8-feet piece has since been completed. New tiki bar opens in Oceanside — it gives moody, retro vibes Artwork by Robert Xavier Burden. This marks a rare occasion to view both paintings together before they transition into private collections. The Alien Painting continues Burden’s exploration of larger-than-life themes, while The Lagomorph Painting highlights his intricate, nature-inspired artistry. Both works reflect Burden's signature approach to detail and the use of vibrant, meticulous layers that demand both time and attention from the viewer.
