SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) -- In about 24 hours, we will crown a national champion, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman and Ohio State head coach Ryan Day having a joint press conference the final time they will meet with the media before the big matchup. There were about 200 journalists in the room, and it was standing room only. Both of these coaches talking about the final preparations that they are making ahead of the biggest games of their career. During the press conference, WSAV News 3's Sports Director Joey Lamar was able to ask a question to both head coaches and it was about the format of the college football playoff system. Each team is currently going through game number 16 of their season. No team in college football history has ever played this many games in a season. But the way the College Football Playoff is set up, it could go up to 17 games. Lamar asked both coaches how they felt about the number of games that we are playing in a college football season and if they made any adjustments to how they would prepare their guys because of the potential of any longer that season. "One of the things in particular was on offense," Day said. "We didn't play as fast to cut down the number of overall snaps to make sure that our depth was where it needed to be, the way we practiced. You know, the sport science behind it all. There was a lot of things that we took into consideration knowing that this would be the run that we would look to go on." "It was about preparation," Freeman said. "You had to prepare for the opportunity to play four games. It wasn't like a bowl game where, you know, everything was going to go into one game and this was the last game. You had to have a big picture approach to the next four opportunities, even though you didn't know if they were guaranteed or not. "So I think each week you kind of get with your sports performance team and have some discussions and make a plan for what you feel your team needs physically and mentally for that week." The College Football Playoff national championship game will be at 7:30 p.m. at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
