City crews will continue to treat roads overnight
Jan 19, 2025
City crews are continuing to treat roadways during today’s winter weather. Crews will remain on duty overnight as temperatures drop.
With the warmer temperatures over the past couple of days, road pretreatment has been effective at melting snow and ice today. As temperatures drop overnight, drivers are cautioned that some areas may refreeze. Drive slowly and cautiously and be especially careful on bridges and overpasses as they are typically the first driving surfaces to freeze.
Since 6 a.m. this morning, the Lexington Police Department has responded to 66 non-injury collisions, 4 injury collisions, nine traffic hazards and 24 calls for motorist assistance.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Lexington until 7 p.m. tonight. A Cold Weather Advisory is also in effect from 7 p.m. tonight to 1 p.m. tomorrow. Wear multiple layers when going outside and limit exposed skin by wearing a hat, scarf and gloves.
The Office of Homelessness Prevention & Intervention Emergency Weather Plan remains in effect until Friday, Jan. 24. The plan includes expanded shelter services and free transportation to shelters. The Emergency Weather Plan and a list of shelters are available online. Residents who see someone who may need shelter should call LexCall at 311 to be connected with the Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention. After business hours, contact the Street Outreach team at (859) 551-8053 or (859) 556-1870. In case of an emergency, call 911.
The city’s snow removal plan with street and sidewalk rankings is available online. Get the latest on city snow removal, delays, closings and more.
Residents can get information on accidents, lane blockages, snow-and-ice trouble spots and road closures through the city’s Traffic Management X account (@lexwrecks). They can also view traffic at major intersection in real time through the city’s traffic cameras.
