Fanfavorite announced as national anthem singer at AFC Championship

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- After advancing to the AFC Championship for the seventh straight year with a Divisional Round win, the Chiefs needed a performer for next week's national anthem.
Today, it was announced the honors will go to fan-favorite retired United States Navy Petty Officer First Class Generald Wilson.

Wilson, a native of St. Louis County, Missouri, has sung 'The Star Spangled Banner' at stadiums and events across the country. According to the US Department of Veterans Affairs, Wilson has sung the anthem and "God Bless America" at nearly 1,000 events.
Among those events are the 2013 World Series, Game 3 between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Boston Red Sox ("God Bless America"), various NFL playoff games, NCAA championships and an NHL Stanley Cup Finals game.
He's also sang at more than one Chiefs game in the past.
Additionally, Wilson has his own bobblehead sharing his likeness in the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame.
Wilson took to X today to celebrate the news.
"KANSAS CITYYYYYYY! SO HONORED to receive the call off the bench to join you in singing OUR National Anthem during the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, January 26th," his post reads.

The AFC Championship game is set to take place at Arrowhead on Jan. 26 at 5:30 p.m.
