2 dead in 'deeply tragic' shooting in North Carolina neighborhood, police say

FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. (WNCN) -- Two people were killed in a shooting in which one death was from a self-inflicted wound in Fuquay-Varina early Saturday evening, officials said.
The call went out just after 6 p.m. at a home at 817 Highwater Place in the southeast area of Fuquay-Varina in southern Wake County, according to a Fuquay-Varina Police Department news release.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered Cathleen Lesniak, 59, who was dead, police said.

"Additionally, officers located George Lesniak, a 63-year-old male, who appeared to have sustained a self-inflicted fatal injury," the news release said.
Police said officers would likely be at the scene for an extended period Saturday night.
"This incident is deeply tragic, and we urge the community to keep the family in their thoughts during this challenging time," police said in the release.
Highwater Place runs generally parallel to Judd Parkway between Angier Road to the south and Holland Road to the north.
