Simple tips that could save you up to $1,600 a month
Jan 19, 2025
NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — The toughest month for many financially is January, since it's right after all the holiday spending.
Fortunately, a money-saving team at Coupons.com took some time to offer tips on how people can save as much as $1,600 a month, simply by making small changes in their daily life.
Some of these changes include packing a lunch, making coffee at home, using public transportation, canceling unused subscriptions, and more.
Over time, small changes to daily routines can lead to savings, and making mindful choices can help you save.
Consumer experts are sharing these 10 practical tips to help save people money.
The first money-saving tip is to make coffee at home instead of stopping at a coffee shop. Getting coffee at a shop can cost $3-$5, but making it at home could drop it to $.50 or $1.
The second thing is to pack your lunch. Packing a lunch could only cost about $2-$5 compared to the $7-$15 when eating out.
By using public transportation, or walking if possible, you could spend roughly $1-$5 a day rather than paying $5-$15 on gas, parking, and maintenance.

Canceling used subscriptions is another thing that can save you up to $30 a month, as streaming services or gym memberships add up to $15 a month each.
Another thing is switching cell phone plans. They can cost between $30-$100 a month, but a lower-cost plan can save you around $20 a month.
Creating shopping lists can help with impulse buying, as that can cost upwards of $10 or more per trip.
The seventh tip is to cut back on dining out. Restaurants or takeout can cost up to $30 a person, but by cooking at home, you can reduce the average cost to about $7.
Use cashback or rewards apps when you can with everyday purchases like groceries or gas, saving $5 a day on average.
Free or low-cost activities can save money, as other activities could cost up to $30 or more each, but hiking, the local park, or a free museum can save money.
The final tip is to turn off unused electronics (TVs, chargers, computers) to save a few extra dollars on the electricity bill each month, saving you $3 a day.
"By implementing all of these tips, you could potentially save up to $1,679 per month or $20,148 per year," commented Alexander Ketter, a consumer expert. "Even if you choose just a few of these strategies, you'll still see a noticeable savings. It's all about making small, consistent changes that can add up to a significant amount over time."
