INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Kennedy King Memorial Initiative welcomes the community to tour their new Cultural Visitor Center, a space dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Senator Robert F. Kennedy.
Indiana statehouse representative, and chairman of The Kennedy King Memorial Initiative, Gregory Porter joined Daybreak to share how the Cultural Visitor Center connects guests to MLK Jr. and RFK’s legacy.
The center opens from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20. The center originally opened a year ago, but had to wait due to COVID.
“We want to create a space to help create and motivate younger leaders. Also, it’s a place in which we can educate, motivate, and cultivate new leadership as well as bringing history to the 21st century,” Porter said.
The Cultural Visitor Center’s space was designed to bring in the local community.
“We have programming with the Boys and Girls Club, St. Florian Center, Wabash has been there with students to try to do history – it’s very interactive,” Porter said.
The center talks about Kennedy’s announcement of MLK Jr.’s assassination to Indianapolis, the night that Kennedy was assassinated, how the country has changed since 1900.
