CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Two people were killed and two others were hurt after an early-morning crash involving a motorcycle in east Charlotte, according to Medic. Around 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to the crash in the 7100 block of East W.T. Harris Blvd. When they arrived, they found a 2012 Ford Fusion and a 2017 Yamaha FZ-09 motorcycle with heavy damage in the intersection. The driver of the motorcycle, 25-year-old Anthony Ayala, was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. Man on motorcycle dies after being struck by car on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Greensboro police say Two passengers of the Ford, a 20-year-old man and a 10-year-old, were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Roberto Emanuel Ortiz, 14, was also taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries where he later died. Investigators say Ayala was driving south on East W.T. Harris Blvd at an "extremely high rate of speed" when he collided with the Ford that was going north and attempting to turn left onto Hickory Grove Road. CMPD says Ayala was wearing a helmet and everyone in the Ford was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Speed and impairment are suspected factors in the collision for Ayala, but not for the driver of the Ford Fusion, a woman who was not injured. This is still an ongoing investigation.
