Fire leaves four displaced, four firefighters hurt

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) responded to a structure fire during the overnight hours of Sunday, Jan. 19. The fire left a family displaced, and four firefighters injured.
At around 2:18 a.m., CSFD was dispatched to a house fire on the 1200 block of Tonka Avenue, near Old Colorado City, and called a working fire as they approached the flames. Upon arrival, crews were met with heavy fire from all windows of the home.
Due to the amount of fire, CSFD said via X (formerly known as Twitter) that a second alarm was ordered and because "all on scene resources were being used." Overall, 45 CSFD personnel responded. The fire was knocked down at around 3 a.m.
CSFD said that below freezing temperatures and windchill caused some equipment to freeze but said it did not harm the fire fight.
During an interior search, a firefighter fell through a split-level staircase. They were evacuated and treated on scene for minor injuries. Three other firefighters also received minor injuries due to falling or slipping on ice at the scene.
The fire displaced two adults, one child, and an infant. A dog is still unaccounted for.
