CARLSBAD, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The Kids Marathon Mile at LEGOLAND on Saturday morning kicked off race weekend activities for the Carlsbad Marathon. The Carlsbad Marathon began early Saturday morning with nearly 3,000 people coming out for the Kids Marathon Mile at LEGOLAND California Resort. The 1-mile run/walk was open to kids of all ages and abilities and started at 6:30 a.m. before LEGOLAND opened to the public. A portion of the registration fees from the Kids Marathon Mile will be donated directly to the nonprofit Merlin's Magic Wand Foundation. Saturday evening, Carlsbad Marathon participants were able to pick up their race day expo packets and race day bibs. The Carlsbad Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K takes over the streets of Carlsbad Sunday morning. The full marathon (26.2 miles) starts at 6:15 a.m., while the half marathon (13.1 miles) starts at 7:45 a.m., and the 5K ( 3.1 miles) kicks off at 6:40 a.m. Plus, there is a virtual option for all distances. These Carlsbad roads will be closed from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. on race day: Marron Road (Monroe Street to Jefferson Street) Monroe Street (Marron Road to Carlsbad Village Drive) Jefferson Street (Marron Road to Laguna Drive) Laguna Drive (Jefferson Street to State Street) State Street (Laguna Drive to Carlsbad Blvd.) Carlsbad Blvd. (Buena Vista Lagoon to La Costa Ave.; northbound lanes open between La Costa Ave. and Poinsettia Ln.) Poinsettia Ln. (Avenida Encinas to Carlsbad Blvd.) Palomar Airport Road (Carlsbad Blvd. to Avenida Encinas) Jefferson Street (Laguna Drive to Arbuckle Pl.) will reopen at 8 a.m. You can find race results, race photos, live tracking options and more online here. The City of Carlsbad is asking the community to help with their goal of "only your feet hit the ground," by placing your trash and recycling cans out so runners and walkers can dispose of their trash so they aren't left behind on Carlsbad streets.
