Police are investigating a deadly triple stabbing that happened in Southwest Berkeley on Saturday. The incident happened just before 12:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of Russell Street. According to Berkeley Police, they were initially responding to a call about a stolen vehicle. But police quickly had to pivot as they began getting more calls from the same area about people on the ground, bleeding. When officers arrived on scene, they found two men and a woman suffering from stab wounds. The three were transported to the hospital. Police added that both men were listed in stable condition, while the female victim died from her injuries. Police are investigating this incident as a homicide and they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public. There have been no arrests made in this case. Berkeley Police had the intersection of Acton Street blocked off between Russell and Burnett Streets as they investigated Saturday. For hours, clothes remained strewn across the street alongside several evidence markers. Many neighbors walked by the investigation, alarmed to learn about what had happened. Berkeley resident Darrich Armstrong said he had just been playing basketball at a nearby park with his grandson. “As soon as we came from the park, we saw the police flying up the street,” he said. Armstrong said seeing police in his neighborhood caught his attention. “It’s unusual, you hear stuff going on everywhere, but over in this area, it’s really quiet, there’s not a lot of stuff going on,” he noted. Later, a neighbor told Armstrong that three people had stab wounds and that one of those people had died. “I was sad to hear it,” Armstrong said. Another neighbor who lives on Acton Street and didn’t want to be identified told NBC Bay Area she was at home when she heard a noise outside Saturday. “We saw this man run past and say “Help! Help!” and then people came, he fell on the street,” she recalled. She said her neighbors called 9-1-1 and rushed over to help the man. She also recalled seeing a second man in the area who had blood on his chest, though she didn’t know how that happened. The neighbor said that she did not recognize either of these two men. “Everybody came out to help, [applying] first aid and tunicates, and they were there ’til the ambulance came and took them away,” the neighbor recalled. The neighbor described her neighborhood as one where families are always walking around. “I don’t want to see something like this happen here,” she said. This story is developing.
