Brown Falls to 02 in Ivy League After Home Loss to Harvard
Jan 18, 2025
The Brown men’s basketball team (8-7, 0-2) suffered an 80-67 loss to Harvard (6-9, 1-1) at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Saturday afternoon.
“The price of admission for us is we always say we have to be the most resilient, toughest, most connected team in the building when we step on the court. If we do those things we’re good enough to beat anyone, if we don’t do things we’ll lose to anyone,” Head Men’s Basketball Coaching Chair Mike Martin ’04 said. “I think we saw how hard Harvard played, how resilient they were, how connected they were out there and they deserve a ton of credit. With that said we’re disappointed we didn’t perform.”
The Crimson led by as much as nine in the first half before Brown cut their lead to one at the end of the first half. As a team, Brown shot 7-14 from three-point range, they also had nine assists on 12 made field goals.
Alexander Lesburt Jr. led the way offensively in the opening 20 minutes for Brown with 12 points on 3-5 shooting from three-point range. Harvard took a 35-34 lead into the second half.
A one point deficit to open the second half was the closest the Bears would get as the Crimson led by as much as 19 with 5:28 remaining in the second half.
Kino Lilly Jr. led all scorers with 22 points on 8-15 shooting from the field and 4-7 shooting from three-point range. The Glenn Dale, Md. native is three three-pointers away from being the third player in Ivy League history to make 300 three-pointers.
Lesburt Jr. was the second Bear to score in double figures as he chipped in 14 points and five rebounds.
As a team, Brown had 21 turnovers as Harvard converted with 25 points off Brown turnovers. The Crimson shot 64 percent from the field in the second half.
After shooting 50 percent from three-point range in the first half, the Bears shot 33.3 percent from distance in the final 20 minutes.
