GEORGETOWN, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Georgetown College’s basketball programs are enjoying two winning seasons like never before inside the Davis-Reid Alumni Gym. The #8 Tigers women’s basketball team are winners of 15 games in a row and stand at 17-1 after beating the #7 ranked Freed Hardeman Lions on Saturday. Head Coach Jeff Nickel is leading the team in its best season to date and are 3-0 in the Mid South Conference. Although the score of the Tigers win versus the Lions was 70-65, Georgetown is averaging 85 points per game and shooting almost 75 percent from the field. Despite a loss to Freed Hardeman that ended the Georgetown men’s basketball team’s perfect record of 18-0, the team wasn’t rolling over for the Lions. The gut punch of a loss came as Freed Hardeman scored with seconds left in overtime to down Georgetown 70-68. Before the team’s first loss of the season, they had been ranked number one in the nation at the NAIA level as recent as January 15. Both Tiger teams are back in action on January 23 away to the University of the Cumberlands. Categories: Featured, More Sports, Sports Tags: Basketball, georgetown, mid south, NAIA, Tigers
