INDIANAPOLIS — Two firefighters were injured while responding to a residence fire on the southeast side of Indianapolis Saturday night. Public emergency reporting systems indicate Indianapolis Fire Department crews were called to the 8400 block of Southern Springs Drive around 8:50 p.m. on a report of a residence fire. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found a single-story residence that was being heavily damaged by flames. IFD confirmed that three adults, one juvenile and a dog all safely evacuated the home. Firefighters also reported that a few propane tanks inside the structure may have exploded during the blaze. Per IFD, two firefighters were injured when the kitchen ceiling fell on them. IFD said one of the injured firefighters was transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries. The second firefighter was checked out on scene by medics. No other injuries were reported. Investigators indicated fire crews were able to extinguish the fire in just under 90 minutes. IFD confirmed the home belongs to one of its firefighters. He told investigators he found fire in the garage after his home lost power.
