INDIANAPOLIS — Notre Dame and Ohio State are just one day away from their clash in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
The game will air nationally on ESPN at 7:30 p.m. The contest will be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Notre Dame (14-1) clinched its spot in the national championship game by earning wins over Indiana, Georgia and Penn State in the first, quarterfinal and semifinal rounds, respectively.
The Fighting Irish — seeded seventh in this year's 12-team College Football Playoff bracket — beat 10th-seeded Indiana, 27-17, at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend. Notre Dame defeated second-seeded Georgia and sixth-seeded Penn State by scores of 23-10 and 27-24, respectively.
On their way to the national championship game, the Fighting Irish picked up Fiesta Bowl and Orange Bowl titles.
Eighth-seeded Ohio State (14-1) bullied its way to the national championship game, earning blowout victories over Tennessee, Oregon and Texas in the first three rounds of the playoff. The Buckeyes' smallest margin of victory in the playoff so far is 14 points in their 28-14 win over the Longhorns.
Neither Notre Dame, nor Ohio State were seeded inside the top four of the College Football Playoff. Only conference champions can earn those seeds and the first-round byes that come with them. Ohio State failed to make the Big Ten Championship Game, and Notre Dame's football team does not belong to a conference.
