BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — It was all about welcoming in a new chapter to the state as the Governor's Heritage Foundation held the Inaugural Ball of North Dakota's 34th Governor Kelly Armstrong tonight.
Governor Armstrong says that the event is more than just a celebration with a baseball theme. It's a warm-up for what Governor Armstrong hopes to accomplish in his next four years.
Tonight, he laid out his goals which included, what he called, meaningful property tax reform and relief as well as strengthening the agricultural economy and remedying overcrowded jails and mental health service shortages.
"Tonight, we celebrate our state's history that belongs to all of us," says Governor Armstrong. "This is more than a party. It's a gathering of people who believe in the values that make North Dakota extraordinary. "
The ball had more than 1,600 attendees.
The event also collected food for the Great Plains Food Bank.
Funds raised will be split between the Bank and North Dakota FFA Foundation, among other charities.
