NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — Badlands Search and Rescue Service is encouraging people to stay vigilant in order to prevent hypothermia. Mayo Clinic says signs of hypothermia include: shivering, slurred speech, shallow breathing, weak pulse, confusion, and drowsiness. And as temperatures remain frigid outside, those with Badlands Search and Rescue have a few tips on how to prevent it: Stay dry. Try to avoid sweating and carry spare clothes. Stay hydrated and well-fed. A high level of nutrition is key to keeping your body warm. Dress in layers. Start with a base layer, then add a thick, insulating layer, and lastly, a wind or waterproof shell. Don't overdo any outside activities. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox.
