AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A 25-year-old man was sentenced December 11 for multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and trafficking of a child, according to Hays County court records. Diego Alejandro Cortez pled guilty to those charges. The court sentenced him to serve 40 years in state prison. He will receive 529 days of jail credit towards his sentence. PREVIOUS: Registered sex offender engaged in this behavior ‘shortly after bonding out’ The Hays County Sheriff's Office had arrested Cortez in July 2023. At the time, HCSO said Cortez had enticed a 10-year-old girl to leave her home and had assaulted the girl multiple times. Cortez was also previously arrested December 2021 for a similar incident in Abilene. According to court documents, he required to join the Texas Public Sex Offender Registry in May 2021.
