Host Grand Rapids scored three straight goals from the middle of the first period to the middle of the second on the way to a 4-2 victory over the Monsters on Jan. 18.
Samuel Knazko scored his first goal of the season to give Cleveland (22-12-1-3) a 1-0 lead 5 minutes, 18 seconds in the first period. The Monsters did not score again until 6:15 remaining in the third period when Hunter McKown scored his fourth goal of the season.
McKown’s pulled Cleveland to within one, but the Griffins put it away with an empty-netter in the final minute.
Jet Greaves had 25 saves for the Monsters.
The teams split their weekend series. Cleveland returns home for games against Chicago on Jan. 22 and 23.
