WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- Saturday afternoon, officials in D.C. provided an update regarding the security for President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20. On Friday, it was announced that Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance would be sworn in inside the Capitol Rotunda due to frigid temperatures, as opposed to outside on the west front of the Capitol. As a result of the move, officials announced several updates to security plans, road closures and Metrorail service for Inauguration Day. Metro Metro said Metrorail will open at 5 a.m. instead of the previously planned 4 a.m. and will run on a normal weekday schedule. In addition, the Yellow Line will no longer run to Greenbelt on Inauguration Day. Four stations, including Archives, Federal Triangle, Mt. Vernon Square and Pentagon, will be fully closed as trains are expected to bypass these stations. Due to inaugural balls and other events, certain entrances will also see closures during select hours at Judiciary Square, McPherson Square and Union Station. However, Meto noted that these stations would be accessible through other entrances. Metro emphasized that one of the "major" updates to service on Inauguration Day is that the Gallery Place Station will only be open to customers transferring lines. Therefore, no one will be allowed to enter or exit the station on Sunday, Jan. 19, and Monday, Jan. 20. US Capitol police lists items prohibited at presidential inauguration Secret Service said the restrictions are due to the station's proximity to Capitol One Arena, where Trump will hold a rally on Sunday. A live viewing of the inauguration ceremony will also take place there on Monday, according to the Associated Press. Metro encourages anyone looking to get to Capital One Arena to use Metro Center.
