Will trash collection services be impacted? The DC Department of Public Works (DPW) will not collect household trash and recycling on Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The District said trash, recycling, and food waste collection will slide for the remainder of the week into Saturday, Jan. 25. While most collections are back on track, DPW is aware that some areas have not received collection and is working to reach those areas. Crews respond to crashes in Montgomery County as roads remain slick, icy If trash has not yet been collected, residents are encouraged to report the missed collections to 311. Officials said residents and commercial property owners should spread abrasives (salt) across sidewalks before the snowfall starts. Residents who are not enrolled in the Sidewalk Shoveling Exemption Program are required to clear the snow and ice from their sidewalks within the first eight hours of daylight. Commercial property and business owners are also required to clear all snow and ice from their sidewalks within the first eight hours of daylight following the end of the snow event. The DPW recommends all restaurant owners along the treated routes bring in all furniture and other elements within dining areas, except for the barriers.
