Weather Forecast: Arctic air is knocking on Rochester's door
Jan 18, 2025
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Today certainly has felt like a warm-up here in Rochester as it looks like this will be the warmest day of 2025. However, there is change on the horizon. A cold front is expected to sweep through the region later this evening. After the front passes through, temperatures will take a hit. This will likely mean that our high temperature for tomorrow will be reached shortly after midnight.
8-Day Forecast
This drop-off of temperatures will be the beginning of an outbreak of arctic air, which is set to impact all of the lower 48. Temperatures for Sunday will likely remain in the teens. For those of you who are brave enough to brace the outdoors and head out to Highmark to watch the Bills, temperatures will remain in the lower teens, with wind chills expected to near 0 degrees at times. Snow showers are expected to move into the area Sunday evening and last throughout the overnight hours. Temperatures will eventually fall into the single digits for overnight lows.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will be nothing short of bitterly cold. And no, this is not an exaggeration. Snow showers will likely stick around for the day on Monday. Temperatures will likely barely make it out of the single digits. The next two days will feature much of the same, only with no snow showers. The trio of frigid days will likely see wind chills getting as low as -20 degrees. That’s getting into dangerous territory and could very well require cold weather headlines from the National Weather Service.
While milder air has taken over, make no mistake. Cold is coming. Our latest forecast wind chills drop as low as -15° to -20° in the Rochester area next week. Others will be even colder. After this first half of the week freeze, temperatures will begin their gradual climb back up. Highs for both Thursday and Friday will be back into the 20s. Snow showers look to impact the area on Thursday, but the rest of the week and into the weekend look to remain dry and on the 'warmer' side.
