We are tracking a cold front through the area with chilly rain showers lasting through this evening. Showers end by 10 pm, and clouds remain as temperatures drop into the lower 30s. Sunday, we will watch the development and progression of a storm rolling up the coast. Models have come into better agreement, and confidence has increased over measurable and plowable snow totals for the region. Sunday will be cloudy with highs in the lower 40s, so any precipitation before the evening will be rain. Once we lose the light of the day and temperatures drop in the evening, we will mix with and change over to snow. Snow will accumulate through 4 am Monday, and most of the region will see 2-4 inches of accumulation. There will be geographic variations in the amounts with this event. The usual areas north and west of Providence will see up to 6 inches locally since it will transition to snow earlier, while coastal regions stay as a wintry mix of rain, sleet, and snow through late into the night, yielding 1-2 inches of total accumulations here.   Following the coastal storm, temperatures plummet for Monday morning. Expect plenty of sunshine and brutal cold from Monday through Thursday, with morning lows in the single digits and sub-zero wind chills. High temperatures won’t be much better, topping out near 20. The cold breaks for Thursday afternoon as we start to move air in from the southwest, bringing Thursday’s high closer to 30. Thursday into Friday, we are watching for the potential of another coastal storm, but there is great uncertainty and low confidence for snow as of now. Stay tuned… Categories: News, Weather Forecast
