Fort Wayne saw its warmest day of the year so far on Friday, with a high in the mid-40s! Unfortunately, the warmth was not meant to last, as a big blast of arctic air is on the way. Look for mostly cloudy skies to be in place tonight. There may be a few spotty lake effect snow showers, but do not expect much to be out there locally. Temperatures will drop into the upper teens by daybreak Sunday. We'll be mostly cloudy tonight.Spotty lake effect snow is possible.Wind chills drop into at least the teens. Sunday will be noticeably colder, but not bitterly cold just yet. High temperatures will reach the lower 20s in the afternoon, as scattered lake effect snow showers drift in from Lake Michigan. We could see up to a half an inch of new snow accumulation, along with wind gusts up to 25 mph lowering visibilities at times in lake effect snow showers. Make sure you take it easy and watch out for slick spots. A half an inch or less of snow is expected on Sunday from lake effect snow showers.Scattered lake effect snow is expected on Sunday.Highs reach the lower 20s at most.Wind chills drop in the afternoon into at least the single digits.Snow showers become more spotty into Sunday night as arctic air moves in. Then the bitter cold sets in. We have issued 15 Fury Alert Days for Monday and Tuesday next week, as wind chills will drop to dangerously low levels. 15 Fury Alert Days issued for extreme cold The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Watch from Sunday night into Wednesday morning during the period of the most intense cold. An Extreme Cold Watch is in effect from 1 AM Monday to 10 AM Wednesday. We'll start off on Monday with wind chills as low as around -20°. With wind gusts up to 30 mph at times, wind chills will only climb as high as around -10° by the afternoon hours. At least skies will be mostly sunny, but that will provide little relief from the bitter cold. Make sure you limit your time outside and stay safe. We wake up Monday morning with below zero temperatures in parts of the area.Wind chills will be dangerously cold.High temperatures reach the upper single digits on Monday.Afternoon wind chills stay well below zero. We'll remain dry with bitterly cold temperatures on Tuesday into Wednesday morning. Wind chills will stay approximately in the -10° to -20° range.
