Hiking Bob: Tips for those who have to go out in the cold
Jan 18, 2025
(COLORADO) — On Friday, Jan. 17, Outdoor Expert, Bob Falcone, otherwise known as "Hiking Bob," gave tips on how to stay safe for those who have to go outside during extreme cold or snowy weather.
According to Hiking Bob, dressing for the weather is of the highest importance - which means no exposed skin, which can lead to frostbite or hypothermia. Multiple loose layers can help you stay warmer, as the air gaps in between layers trap the heat, and your first layer should be windproof and waterproof.
He said to avoid taking pets outside in any way, shape, or form, other than a potty break, as dogs' feet can stick to the ice, causing injuries.
"That's the kind of temperature, that if you're not prepared for it, can be fatal," said Hiking Bob. "The best advice, obviously, is just don't go outside, if at all possible. The parks aren't going anywhere, the trails aren't going anywhere... If you have to go outside, for whatever reason, you need to really dress appropriately."
Though Hiking Bob doesn't like telling people to stay inside, this weekend is a good time to catch up on indoor chores, Netflix shows, and sleep, and not risk lives for a hike.
