BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — President-elect Donald Trump will officially be taking office this Monday. And Senator John Hoeven says he looks forward to working under the Trump administration once again to bring back, what he calls, a common sense approach to border security. "Senate Republicans stand ready to work with President Trump to advance the policies that kept our border secure during his first administration," explained Senator Hoeven. "That's exactly what my colleagues and I will be working to accomplish every day in the coming months." This week, Senator Hoeven outlined his goals in solving what he deems to be failed border policies of the last four years. What could get more expensive under Trump’s tariffs? Under the Biden-Harris administration, Senator Hoeven says the United States saw the highest annual and monthly total of illegal alien crossings as well as the highest total of individuals on the terrorist watchlist attempting to cross the border. He says Republicans are taking a step toward greater border security through the Laken Riley Act. This act would require Immigration and Customs Enforcement to detain illegal aliens who commit particular theft-related crimes. But Senator Hoeven says this act is just one of the many steps Republicans will be taking to secure borders under the Trump administration. Senator Hoeven says he's in support of the border wall, greater recruitment of border security professionals, and updating border security tools. "Border security is national security," said Senator Hoeven. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Today's Top Stories SIGN UP NOW
