FAIRHAVEN, Mass. (WLNE) — The Fairhaven Fire Department said an overloaded extension cord in the living room of a home caused a fire early Saturday morning.
The department responded to Main Street around 4 a.m. to find heavy smoke coming from the building as well as a fire on the first floor.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, and all occupants of the home were alerted by a smoke alarm before the department arrived.
Two adults and one child were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for smoke inhalation.
The department said the first floor residents were displaced by the fire, and that two cats were removed by animal control until the family could be relocated.
